NER/CAA Annual Meeting
The New England Region/Carriage Association of America has scheduled its annual meeting and learning weekend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, February 2-4, 2018.
Saturday morning will feature three speakers: an historian on Amesbury carriage making history, Merri Ferrell on the Industrialization of Carriage Manufacturing, and Jill Ryder, Executive Director of the Carriage Association of America, on the 2016 Royal Windsor Horse Show and equine celebration of the Queen's 90th Birthday.
After lunch, we will board a bus to visit the historic Amesbury carriage building area with stops at the Merrimack Hat Museum, the LeBaron Bonney Company shop (supplier of carriage and automobile fabrics) and sites where Amesbury-built carriages are on display.
We will return from our tour to The Lamie's Inn, our conference hotel, on Route 1, Hampton, NH, for a silent auction and dinner. The after-dinner program is a "movie night" featuring films of early carriage-driving events in New England.
On Sunday morning, we will caravan to the home of Bruce and Sarah Tompkins in Rowley, MA, which is the location of the historic Daniels Wagon Factory, the Tompkins' carriage collection, and their splendid harness room. We will return to the Lamie's Inn for a presentation by Ken Wheeling on New Hampshire mountain-house coaches, a history of the White Mountains' tourist trade, and the mountain houses.
Ken's talk will be followed by a reputed "regionally famous" Lamie's Inn/Old Salt Restaurant brunch.
